That wasn't part of L.A.con IV. The
Scientologists had booked a function room in the convention center. Also in the convention center during L.A.con, among other things, was a Home & Garden Show and the California Highway Patrol had a "Cadet Sign-Up".
The last was sort of confusing to some, considering L.A.con's "Space Cadet" theme.

hmmm, what does Doctorow have to gain by bolstering psychiatry? Why denigrate an exhibit that casts light on its abuses unless he desires to cover them up. I note his name is "Doctor(ow)" perhaps he stems from a line of doctors who historically profited from these human rights abuses. At the least his motives are suspect.
